Coca-Cola Clear Lime

Updated: Aug 3, 2023

Wow, so it’s been four years since I’ve written anything as the Reckless Gastronome, so please forgive me if I’m a bit out of practice. What could get me writing again you ask? Has the seventh seal broken and my powers are returned to me? Has someone said my name backwards three times while holding a candle in front of a mirror? Did my younger brother beg me to write something for his fledgling news site? The world may never know. In any event you are here for me (a lonely tear streaks down my face),

let’s get reviewing!

Coca-Cola Clear Lime comes to us from Japan where Coca-Cola Clear is a diet version of Coke that has removed the caramel and added the usual diet villains of sucralose and acesulfame potassium, plus some lemon flavor to compensate. Here’s where it gets complicated like the plot to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Coca-Cola Clear Lime isn’t a diet soda, it has our old pal high-fructose corn syrup and they replaced the lemon flavoring with lime. Basically, they un-dieted their diet soda but decided to put a picture of the regular dark soda on the label for reasons I can’t begin to comprehend. So, where does all this Full Metal Alchemy leave us? It leaves us with a Sprite that’s missing the lemon. It’s clearly missing a note (but thankfully not a Death Note) which isn’t to say that it’s bad, just incomplete like it needs another flavor to give it some depth. In the interest of disclosure I will admit that the one I got ahold of was a bit flat so there’s a distinct possibility that some more carbonation would have made the flavor “pop” a little more (pun as always intended.) Found by my brother (I’ll have to find out where he got it from)
